Quinta Do Vesuvio 2006 Vintage Port :
The Symington family has just announced the release of the 2006 Quinta do Vesuvio. Dating back to 1872 this old estate is the only major Douro Quinta to continue to produce Ports exclusively by traditional treading. All the Port was made in stone lagares with 50 employees treading the wine.
The harvest was small with average yields of around 1.12kg per vine going down to a mere 0.57kg for the old vines. Only the finest have been selected for bottling and this amounts to 1250 cases of Quinta do Versuvio that has been made available to the world market.
Tasting notes: Dark crimson colour, the wine shows Versuvio's classic power with a lovely violet scented and peppery nose with a palate of delicious layers of opulent blackberry fruit. It has all the hallmarks of a great Vesuvio vintage Port.
The Port is priced at £190.00 6 x 75cl Under Bond and comes in a beautifull wooden case.

Quinta Da Senhora Da Ribeira 2006 Vintage Port :
Dow's has just announced the 2006 en primeur release of thisexceptional Port. The estate was originally purchased by Dow's in 1890, sold in 1954 and then repurchased in 1998. The estate only produces very small quantity of the best wine in good years and the 2006 is no exception. There are only 500 cases available to the entire world market.
In 2006 the vineyard produced 69 pipes of Port, all made on the Quinta in either traditional lagares or in three robotic lagares. Both systems made fantastic wine. Just 8 pipes have been chosen to bottle as the Senhora da Ribeira 2006 out of the 69 pipes actually made.
Since Senhora da Ribeira's reacquisition in 1998, its Vintage Port in a very short period of time has amassed a highly impressive number of awards and rave reviews,
- Two gold and silver medals at the International Wine Challenge.
- Two gold and silver medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
- Two silver medals at the Decanter Magazine World Wine Awards.
Tasting Note: Inky purple-black colour with a deep garnet rim. Lovely fragrant nose of blackberry, rockrose and clove. Full and generous palate with flavours of concentrated blackcurrant fruit and bitter chocolate, liquorice and spice, coated in ripe peppery tannins. One of the finest Ribeira wines, sensational now, but will age very well indeed.
