Chateau Yquem

Between the years 1785 and 1996 this estate was run by one family, the Lur Saluces. In 1996 Eugene de Lur Saluces sold his share of the estate to LVMH Moet, making them the largest shareholder. Comte Alexandre de Lur Saluces continued to manage this huge estate until his retirement in 2004, when Pierre Lurton of Chateau Cheval Blanc took over. Yquem overlooks the vineyards of a great deal of the premiers crus classes and it can be said that Yquem is Bordeaux's single greatest dessert wine. The density of plantation is 6,500 vines per hectare with plantings of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. One dessert wine is produced: Chateau d'Yquem 110,000 bottles and a white wine Y d'Yquem.
