Domaine Seguin Manuel Burgundy Wines

Domaine Seguin Manuel:

The Domaine of Seguin Manuel has a history dating back to 1824. In 2004 the Domaine was purchased by Thibault Marion who's family own the highly respected Burgundy Domaine of Chanson Pere et Fils.

The first two vintages produced by Thibault the 2005 and 2006 have put this previously little known Domaine firmly on the map as a top Burgundy producer.

The prices compared to other more well known Domaines are considerably cheaper for similar quality and we believe that this is a Domaine that all Burgundy lovers should seriously consider and look out for as prices are inevitably going to increase.

In 2005 Christies Auctioneers, Paris auctioned vintage bottles of Seguin Manuel from the years 1900, 1904, 1906 etc and these bottles received rave reviews when opened and older vintages like the 1947 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (3x75cl) are now currently trading at £1200.00 on the UK Market.

Below are wines from the excellent 2005 and just as good 2006 vintages with tasting notes from
Steven Spurrier (Editor Decanter Magazine) and Georges Pertuiset (Best Sommelier of France):

2005 Savigny Les Beaunes "Les Lavieres" 1er Cru (12x75cl £157.00

"Quite deep black cherry red, velvety and shows good intensity, quite earthy, slightly gamey, pure vineyard fruit, seems like old vines with nicely concentrated ripeness, smooth fruit on the palate, but natural tannins need time to soften, an impressive wine from this appellation. 2010-2015" - 17 points.

2005 Pommard "Clos Blanc" 1er Cru (12x75cl £305.00

"Fine black cherry colour with a velvety intensity, alliance of ripe berry fruits, spice and fruit concentration on the nose, touch of new oak still, good length and good structure, a firm Pommard with a Volnay suaveness, very good wine. 2009-16." - 17.5 points.

2006 Savigny Les Beaune "Les Lavieres" 1er Cru (12x75cl) £162.00

"Good lively cherry colour, a touch more depth than the Vieilles Vignes; more ripeness and more depth on the nose and more of a sense of vineyard origin; good pure fruit on the palate, with nicely handled oak and balanced tannins; overall a good example of the vintage, but needs a couple of years to improve into a good wine. 2010-14." - 16 points.

2006 Vire Clesse (12x75cl) £79.00
2006 Bourgogne Chardonnay (12x75cl) £60.00

"Bright, clear, yellow pale colour. Fresh butter, vanilla, pear and toasted aromas on the nose. Roundness, richness and ripe fruit combine together and leave mineral nuances on the finish. It is more than a simple single varietal as indicated on the label : it shows the expression of a terroir. Very nice to drink now."

2006 Meursault "Boucheres" 1er Cru (6x75cl) £167.00

2006 Savigny Les Beaune "Goudelettes" 1er Cru (6x75cl) £72.00

"Pale yellow colour with green glints. Very pleasant on the nose : pear, white peach aromas with a floral, mineral and toasted touch. Delicate fruit and a hint of verbena, mint and lime-flower give depth and complexity to the wine. Full-bodied and rich, it also shows a light character on the finish. A very nice white Savigny that respects both the terroir and the vintage. Drink now through 2010."
