Chateau Beychevelle was originally built in the 17th century and was reconstructed by the Marquis de Brassier in 1757. It is one of the most beautiful estates in Bordeaux. Bottles of Beychevelle are well known for a picture of a boat with sails at half-mast. Its origin date back to Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette, Duke of Epernon and Admiral of Guyenne, where according to legend the boats that sailed past the Chateau would lower their sail as a sign of allegiance. The density of plantation is 8,300-10,000 vines per hectare with plantings of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Two wines are produced: Chateau Beychevelle 265,000 bottles and Amiral de Beychevelle 198,000 bottles.
