The estate was known under many names in the early 19th century, but it wasn't until 1949 that the estate was re-named to Larrivet Haut Brion. The estate used to be on par with Chateau Haut Brion, but by the 1930's the estate had fallen on hard times. The present owners the Gervosen family, famed for the Bonne Maman French Preserves, purchased the esate in 1987 and set about restoring the vineyards to their former glory. Their hard work has really shown dividends in two of the most recent vintages; 2009 and 2010. There are approximately 42 hectares producing red and white wines. The red vines are split 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot with an annual production averaging 10,000 cases. There is also a second wine called Les Demoiselles de Larrivet de Haut Brion in both red and white wines.
