Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse was classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classificaton of Bordeaux. The name 'Puy' is the term for a small hill or mound. Pierre Ducasse added his name in the 18th century. This large estate is situated on some of the finest land in the regiuon of Pauillac, with one parcel next to Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild. The density of plantation is 8,000-10,000 vines per hectare with plantings of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Two wines are produced: Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse 120,000-140,000 bottles and Prelude a Grand Puy Ducasse 18,000-30,000 bottles.
