Under the proprietor Jacques Merlaut, there has been a trend to produce a more refined and less tannic style of Gruaud Larose. Merlaut has invested significantly in this estate and the production is large with the quality being consistently high. The density of plantation is 8,500-10,000 vines per hectare with plantings of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 7.5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 1.5% Malbec. Two wines are produced: Chateau Gruaud Larose and Sarget de Gruaud Larose.
