Chateau Haut Brion can be traced back to the 14th century where at that time the estate appears to have been centered around a manor called Aubrion, which could be a reference to a proprietor, who has since been long-forgotten over the centuries. It had many owners and in the 1500's it came into the hands of Jean de Segur, a member of the same Segur family who would later take ownership of some of the the top estates of the Medoc. At present Haut Brion is owned by the Dillon family who purchased it in the mid-1930's when it was in a very poor state. They proceeded to invest a great deal of money in the vineyards and cellars. Today Chateau Haut Brion is seen as one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. There are 51 hectares of vines and the grape varieties are 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc with the white varieties being Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, both of which are typical for this region. The wines produced are Haut Brion, Haut Brion Blanc.
