At present this is, without a doubt, the most popular and since the late 1970’s, one of Pauillac’s most consistently fantastic wines. It can equal the three famous first growths of this sector.  The wines have been very successful since the early 1960’s, but there is no doubt that between the late 1970’s and early 1980’s the quality has risen dramatically.  It has a density of plantation of 9,000 vines per hectare with plantings of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. Two wines are produced:  Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and Reserve de la Comtesse.
