Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste was classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classificaton of Bordeaux. The name 'Puy' is the term for a small hill or mound. Francois Lacoste added his name in the 19th century. The estate was acquired in 1978 by the Borie family of Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou. The density of plantation is 10,000 vines per hectare with plantings of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Two wines are produced: Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 195,000 bottles and Lacoste Borie 120,000 bottles.
