In Pauillac, 2018 will be remembered for its record-breaking winter and spring rainfall, as well as much higher than average sunshine hours in the summer. Despite these initial difficulties in the growing season, this vintage has surpassed all hopes.

High humidity in July lead to mildew, resulting in crop losses in this appellation. For example, Pontet Canet lost 2/3 of their crop, but, according to winemaker Jean-Michel Comme, the resulting wine is his greatest ever.

2018 is on a par with the greatest vintages of recent memory (2009, 2010, 2016). The Merlot is rich, juicy and fruity. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot have seldom been so full and flavoursome. The long hot summer turned the Cabernet Sauvignon around, producing the raw material of great wines.
