As an appellation, Pomerol had a more humid winter than the Left Bank, and a relatively less rainy spring. At the end of May, after optimal flowering, a glorious hot and dry summer set in. Water reserves from the winter served well to help the vines cope with the prolonged drought.

Overall, wonderfully ripe Merlot gives excellent structure and depth to the wines. Cabernet Franc adds an unctuous, velvety texture, enhancing complexity and length.

Here, there is a rare combination of weight, alcohol and irresistible freshness in the vintage which has made the top wines outstanding. Our wine of the vintage is Vieux Chateau Certan, which we awarded 100 points.

2018: An amazing vintage: balance of freshness and ripeness for a great long ageing vintage.
