The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gains 1er Cru, matured in around 35% new oak, has quite an understated bouquet of pineapple and light lemon curd aromas, hints of pear developing with time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, with what you might call a gentle opening and an appealing saline undercurrent. It does not quite offer the laser-like precision of say, Chavy-Chouet (tasted during the previous visit), but there is fine persistence here.
