The year started with a very rain-hit winter, followed by a wet and warm spring. Early flowering came just before further rainstorms in early June which effected fruit-set. Mildew was also an issue at this stage. The hot, dry summer that followed limited berry growth but greatly increased their concentration.

Harvest conditions were perfect. Due to the small berry to skin ratio, those chateaux that limited extraction have made the most successful and balanced wines. The resulting wines have concentrated juice and exceptional richness along with structured tannins.

The first tastings show the signs of a very great vintage, a combination of the fruity aromatic profile of the 2009 and the precision of the 2016.
