The vineyards of Chateau Canon originate from a small vineyard planted by Jean Bies early in the 18th century. In 1760 Bies sold his 13 hectares to Jacques Kanon, a possible source of the name Canon. The estate and vineyards were sold many times and good fortune was bestowed on them when Andre Fournier was brought to them in 1919. In 1996 Fournier sold Chateau Canon to the Wertheimer family of Chanel fame. The vines are made up of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc.
