When you speak to any Bordelaise with knowledge of the vineyard of Leoville Poyferre, they will all agree it has the soil and space to produce one of the Medoc's finest red wines, but it was not always the case, especially in the early 1960s. In the 1980s, the two finest vintages were the fruit driven 1983 and the spectacular 1982. The density of plantation is 8,000 vines per hectare producing 250,000 bottles of Chateau Leoville Poyferre and 130,000 bottles of Moulin Riche with plantings of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
