In the early 1830s, Chateau Figeac sold 15 hectares to Monsieur Laussac-Fourcaud which runs through Figeac and neighbouring vineyards and Chateau Petrus over the border in Pomerol and this then became Chateau Cheval Blanc. The chateau stayed in the family until 1998 when it was then sold to Bernard Arnault, Chairman of LVMH and a Belgian businessman, Albert Frere. The vineyard area spreads over 41 hectares with 37 hectares planted with the grape varieties of 57% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Annual production averages 6,000 cases of Grand Vin and 2,500 cases of the second wine.
